In the framework of the project “ILUMINA: Access to Energy for Local Development and Women Empowerment”, the MGA successfully concluded a 2nd round of training in Pemba, Mozambique, held between the 7th and the 11th February 2022. This edition follows the learning path started during the first edition dedicated to Mozambique, which was carried out in February 2020.
The training was funded by the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development (AICS), and implemented by AVSI Foundation, in partnership with RES4Africa and Tecnologie Solidali Onlus (TS). It aimed at enhancing the capacity of local actors working in the renewable energy sector and rural electrification, such as members of local institutions, regional stakeholders and other professional figures.
The course proposed a hybrid learning approach based on lectures, working groups and interactive discussions, and it was focused on E&M planning, generation, distribution, O&M, and other relevant topics. Such a comprehensive strategy helped to enhance the renewable energy skills of local, provincial and district institutions, but it was also crucial to acknowledge and promote gender empowerment, thanks to the involvement of female attendees, who accounted for half of the overall number of participants, and demonstrated enthusiasm and proactivity.
