Egypt, 18th December 2024 – RES4Africa Foundation, in collaboration with UNECA and GSE, successfully wrapped up a four-day Technical Training on Energy Storage on 18th December 2024 at the Nile Ritz-Carlton in Cairo.
Egypt is actively working to set targets, regulations, incentives and other rules for the application of storage technologies in a variety of settings (utility-scale, small-scale, etc.). The training aimed to equip participants with the skills to better understand storage technologies and their role within the Egyptian electricity system in order to aid them in the design of a national energy storage regulatory framework. Supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and Enel Foundation, the event brought together a dynamic group of subject matter experts from Nidec, RES4Africa, Afry, and GSE, and representatives from EgyptERA, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, EETC, EEHC, and NREA.
Participants gained insights into storage technologies, their applications, and how they can support renewable energy integration. Discussions also delved into Egypt’s regulatory and market landscape, with comparisons to international benchmarks, providing actionable recommendations for advancing energy storage solutions in the country.
This initiative underscores the importance of collaboration in fostering knowledge exchange and building the capacity needed to address Africa’s energy challenges. The training concluded with a certificate ceremony celebrating the participants’ dedication to shaping the future of energy in Egypt.
