RES4Africa Foundation Announces Inaugural Participants of RAISEAfrica Initiative

RES4Africa Foundation is thrilled to announce the inaugural cohort of the RAISEAfrica - Renewables Accelerators for Innovative Startups and Entrepreneurs in Africa programme. This initiative, launched in collaboration with Enel Green Power (EGP), EDP Renewables, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the European Investment Bank, and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants Enterprise Development (SAICA ED), aims to empower young innovators and entrepreneurs in the renewable energy sector across Africa.

The RAISEAfrica initiative includes both pre-acceleration and acceleration programmes designed to support and scale renewable energy-focused projects within the African startup ecosystem. The selected participants gained access to mentoring, coaching, networking events, funding and visibility opportunities, provided by the program's partners and coaches.

Pre-Accelerator Programme Participants:

  1. Mercy Kyalo | Kenya – 24 years
  • Feion Green Ventures: Develop smoke-free Jiko-Kul cookers, enhancing health outcomes and educational opportunities for women. Their solution is tailored for large-scale cooking in East African schools.
  1. Langanani Dube | Zimbabwe – 33 years
  • Off & Tie Grid Solar Company: Provides a mobile, renewable energy-based generator for solar irrigation, enhancing food security and income for small-holder farmers. Over 350 units have been sold, contributing to the sustainability of local communities.
  1. Aballo Said Adètayo | Benin – 23 years
  • Solar Cooling & Dryer Kit: Offers innovative solutions for post-harvest losses through solar-powered refrigeration and drying technologies, promoting local employment and sustainable agriculture.

Mentor: Dr. Mohamed Alhaji | Founder & Managing Director of Terra Energy and Chairman at RES4Africa's Youth Task Force 

Accelerator Programme Participants:

  1. Peter Njeri | Kenya – 33 years
  • Mega Gas: Converts plastic waste into clean cooking gas, reducing environmental pollution and creating jobs. Mega Gas serves approximately 10,000 customers monthly through community kitchens.
  1. Lazarous Siwelwa  | Zambia – 32 years

  • Virgin Green Renewable Energy: specialises in eco-friendly briquettes made from 100% biomass waste, offering prolonged burning times and significant cost savings for consumers. This initiative has already produced over 10,000 clean cook stoves and 300 tons of charcoal briquettes, saving thousands of trees.
  1. Tolulope Olukokun | Nigeria – 34 years
  • ThinkBikes: Provides e-bikes for smallholder farmers, improving transportation efficiency and reducing emissions. ThinkBikes plans to expand its operations to Kenya, offering sustainable transportation solutions.
