RES4Africa Concludes Successful Side Event at Key Energy 2025, Focused on Accelerating Sustainable Electrification in Africa

Rimini, Italy - March 6, 2025 - RES4Africa, in collaboration with KEY Energy 2025, has successfully hosted its conference titled Accelerating Sustainable Electrification: Key to Economic and Social Development on the African Continent. Held on March 6, 2025, at Rimini Fiera's Sala Ravezzi 1, the event convened leading experts, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to discuss the vital role of electrification in Africa’s socio-economic transformation.

Africa has made significant strides in reducing poverty and expanding access to essential services, including electricity. However, with a projected population of 2.5 billion by 2050, the continent faces growing energy demands that require urgent and sustainable solutions. The conference highlighted the need for large-scale renewable energy development, modernization of electricity grids, and investment in energy storage solutions to ensure universal access to reliable, safe, and affordable electricity.

The event featured two insightful panel discussions. The first panel,Scaling Up Investments for Sustainable Electrification in Africa, brought together key representatives from the European Investment Bank, ABB, Algeria’s Renewable Energy Development Centre (CDER), ECCO, and DT Global-Europe. Panellists explored investment strategies to accelerate electrification and foster Africa-led growth.

The second panel, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): A Key Enabler for Renewable Energy in Africa, focused on energy storage technologies crucial for integrating renewable energy sources. Experts from NIDEC, Solar Energy Systems, IRESEN, SAPVIA, CESI, and RES4Africa provided insights into the role of BESS in enhancing energy security and sustainability across the continent.

In addition to the discussions, delegations had the opportunity to explore innovative solutions showcased at KEY Energy 2025, further strengthening public-private collaborations aimed at sustainable electrification.

"This event served as a pivotal platform for fostering collaboration and investment in Africa's energy transition," said Roberto Vigotti, Secretary General of RES4Africa. "By bringing together diverse stakeholders, we are taking meaningful steps toward a cleaner, more sustainable, and economically vibrant future for Africa."
