A leading platform for public-private dialogue in light of the renewable energy potential and growing energy demand of Southern-Eastern Mediterranean Countries (SEMC)
Renewable Energy Solutions for the Mediterranean (RES4Med) is a strategic programme led and promoted by RES4Africa Foundation. Since its inception in 2012, RES4Med kicked off as a leading platform for public-private dialogue to promote renewable energy in Southern-Eastern Mediterranean countries as a cost-effective, sustainable, and reliable energy strategy to meet growing energy demand.
Context
In the last decade, the MENA region has demonstrated unprecedented social and economic development, which triggered a population growth of about 40% with a growing trend to reach around 724 million people by 2050. This demographic development will lead to a higher urbanization rate and an increase in energy demand. Although countries in the region are highly reliant on oil and gas, they committed under the Paris Agreement to foster a transition to a green future. Yet, renewable energy investments in the region are still at an early stage, with remarkable differences across countries.
Method
RES4Med plays a strategic role in engaging with local stakeholders from the private and public sectors to promote the renewable energy discourse and investments at the national level. Since its inception, the programme has promoted private-public dialogue to share lessons learned, shape solutions and instruments and promote renewable energy investment and brought forward market-driven strategic analysis building on RES4Africa members’ and stakeholders’ experience. With more than 20+ local strategic partners, RES4Med engages with local stakeholders, both from the private and public spheres, to advance knowledge and promote dialogue on renewable energy.

The RES4Med Platform is the online free open space dedicated to the exchange of views, knowledge, opinions and opportunities relevant to the field of renewable energy in the Southern-Eastern Mediterranean region, created to advance regional dialogue and cooperation
Africa is a continent in continuous transformation, with a sustained economic and population growth, a fast-paced urbanization and a young generation of talents who is leading its business revolution. This transformation requires energy and will require it even more in the next decades.
