RES4Africa will be resuming its physical presence in South Africa, with the two-day event South Africa Conference, which will be held on the 14th and on the 15th of June 2022. The event will be hosted by Nedbank at their Auditorium located in Johannesburg (135 Rivonia Road, Sandown).
South Africa is at a real turning point of its path towards full sustainability in energy access: last year, the licensing cap for generation was raised to an unprecedented 100MW, with RE-dedicated new tenders representing unprecedented moves against fossil fuels, and new regulatory steps aiming at producing an environment characterised by greater competition.
Nonetheless, current grid capacity issues, regulatory hindrances, and Eskom’s financial stability are somehow blocking the full development of South Africa's immense RE potential.
These and other themes will be discussed during the event, which will take stock of the evolution of South Africa's energy and electricity sector over the past 3 years, and will be made up of seminars, debates, and meetings.
The conference will be divided in two days:
14th of June: Pathway for a Just Energy Transition in Africa. The day will be articulated in three panels, specifically dedicated to hot topics about South Africa's just energy transition;
15th of June: Grid Management to Maximise RES Potential. The second day will be focused on South Africa's grids, performing critical considerations and officially presenting the Grids4Africa programme.
The access to the event will be open, but subject to availability due to COVID-19 restrictions. We therefore ask that all those wishing to attend register through the link below:
