The secure and reliable provision of energy is fundamental to the economic growth and development of South Africa, a country blessed with abundant renewable energy resources that can form the basis of a secure energy supply. To facilitate open dialogue on how to emerge from the current energy crisis and pave the way for a renewables-based future, RES4Africa Foundation will hold the Energy Security in South Africa Conference. The event, sponsored by Nedbank CIB, will take place at the Nedbank Clocktower in Cape Town, on the 13th of March, from 9 AM to 4 PM.
The conference will provide a much-needed platform to discuss and tackle the key issues of South Africa’s energy landscape, discussing solutions and next steps for the country’s energy security in light of the latest developments.
The conference will consist of 3 sessions, each with one or more keynote speeches and an accompanying panel discussion:
1. Energy security while transitioning – This high-level session will concentrate on the decisive actions needed to manage the country's energy crisis in a manner that ensures a reliable and efficient provision of power to South Africa's citizens.
2. Enhancing investor confidence – A session focusing on regulation and procurement to continue the interest of investors in South Africa's energy sector.
3. Maximising the potential of available connection capacity – This session will be dedicated to the launch of a RES4Africa study on the ideal integration of renewable energy projects and will feature a panel discussion on managing complexity to extract value from a competitive market.
The in-person event will see the participation of a distinguished panel of speakers, including high-level representatives and practitioners from key South African energy sector institutions and a range of local and international renewable energy sector stakeholders. The audience will gather further institutional delegates and renewable industry players, covering the entire value chain (manufacturers, IPPs, financing institutions, etc.).
