In the framework of the International Renewable Energy Conference (IREC), Organised by REN21 and the Government of Spain, RES4Africa Foundation participated and supported the organisation of the Policy Dialogue on Renewable Generation and Regional Power Trade in Africa.
The panel was organised by the African School of Regulation (ASR), in collaboration with the Africa Europe Energy Partnership (AEEP), the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI), REN21, GET.TRANSFORM, the Institute for Research in Technology at Comillas (IIT), and the Florence School of Regulation (FSR), with the participation of the ESMAP-Word Bank Group, IRENA and the African Development Bank.
The policy dialogue was held between the 20th and the 22nd of February 2023 and it gathered various actors operating in the field of renewable energy generation: private companies, power pools, system operators, ministries, regulatory agencies, development financial institutions, think tanks, and more.
The panel deep dived into hot topics of Africa's energy transition, including its renewable energy potential, the current status quo, regional institutions and their role, transmission planning, cost allocation, and regional market organisation.
