On the 17th of November 2022, RES4Africa and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will hold the event Evolving electricity landscape – opportunities for investments. The physical gathering will take place at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria from 9:00 – 15:00.
South Africa's energy sector is undergoing an unprecedented period of change, marked by a wave of important measures promising increased growth, competition, and reliability of supply in the electricity sector. Although challenges remain to the effective implementation of these changes, huge opportunities are already available for renewable energy development, as well as for supporting coal communities in the energy transition through skills improvement and entrepreneurship.
These opportunities will be further unpacked during the course of the event. Following a focus on SMMEs and the programme that CSIR is promoting in this space, opportunities for synergies among SMMEs and big players of the renewables sector will be explored. The second session will deep dive into the space for growth and the potential for job creation through a focus on local manufacturing and RES4Africa’s RE-Skilling Lab initiative. Finally, the afternoon session will consider new avenues to support the deployment of renewables, in particular the aggregator business model.
