Africa Green Growth Forum 2025: Advancing Africa–Europe Collaboration under the Mattei Plan for Africa

On 6 November 2025, RES4Africa Foundation took part in the 5th edition of the Africa Green Growth Forum, held within the framework of Ecomondo 2025 at the Rimini Expo Centre, Italy. The event, organised by Ecomondo, in collaboration with the the Mattei Plan Task Force at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo, and RES4Africa Foundation, gathered institutions, companies, and international organisations to strengthen partnerships for Africa’s sustainable and regenerative development.

This year, discussions centred on energy access and Mission 300, a multilateral programme led by the World Bank and the African Development Bank that aims to provide clean and reliable electricity to 300 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030. Access to energy was presented as a key enabler for community well-being and sustainable growth: reliable power allows access to clean water and sanitation, supports agricultural mechanisation and food processing, and stimulates local entrepreneurship and value creation.

The dialogues framed this effort within the broader vision of the Mattei Plan, which promotes a renewed model of cooperation based on reciprocity, shared benefits, and concrete action for climate resilience. The Africa Green Growth Forum served as a platform to explore how coordinated investments between the public and private sectors can accelerate Africa’s green transformation and contribute to a just, equitable, and sustainable energy transition.

The event featured contributions from representatives of Italian and African institutions, theMinistry of Environment and sustainable development of Ivory Coast, Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo, RES4Africa Foundation, and others who explored how partnerships can advance Africa’s transition towards sustainable economic models in sectors such as water, energy, agri-food, and the circular bioeconomy.

Two thematic round tables followed: one showcasing business stories from companies and associations, and another on financial instruments to operate in Africa, with the participation of CDP, SACE, SIMEST, the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and the European Investment Bank. These discussions offered valuable insights into the mechanisms, partnerships, and initiatives supporting investment and collaboration across the continent.

Silvia D’Ovidio, RES4Africa Head of Institutional Relations, moderated the session, facilitating the dialogue between institutions and the private sector, while Carlo Cecchetti, RES4Africa Head of Communications and Innovation, took part in the roundtable “Opportunities to promote partnerships and green investments in Africa” and shared RES4Africa’s perspective on accelerating sustainable development and collaboration across the continent.

The Africa Green Growth Forum 2025 reaffirmed its role as a central platform within Ecomondo’s international agenda, fostering constructive dialogue between institutions and the private sector to accelerate Africa’s sustainable development. As collaborator and moderator, RES4Africa Foundation contributed to strengthening bridges between Africa and Europe through knowledge sharing and open dialogue, in line with the objectives of the Mattei Plan.
