RES4Africa pilots its first regional Executive School in Southern Africa, empowering local energy professionals

Pretoria, 21st July 2025 – Today, RES4Africa Foundation kicked off the pilot edition of the Southern Africa Executive School, a regional adaptation of its flagship capacity-building programme aimed at strengthening the skills and leadership of Africa’s energy workforce. The initiative is carried out in collaboration with Enel Foundation and the University of Pretoria, with the support of EWSETA and Africa GreenCo.

This new regional format brings RES4Africa’s renowned training model directly to the continent, marking a major step in the Foundation’s strategy to decentralise and scale its educational offer. The week-long programme, running from 21 to 25 July 2025 at the University of Pretoria’s Future Africa Campus, gathers 35 participants from eight countries across Southern Africa: Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Lesotho, and South Africa.

Participants will be divided across two training tracks, Electricity Sector Regulation & Finance and Renewable Energy Integration & Grid Management, and engage in intensive sessions led by experts from academia, the energy industry, and regional institutions. The curriculum covers a wide range of strategic topics including renewable energy markets, financial modelling, grid management, battery storage, green hydrogen, critical minerals, and the socio-economic aspects of a just energy transition.

The opening session sets the stage for a week of collaboration, learning, and exchange, reinforcing RES4Africa’s belief that Africa’s energy future must be shaped in Africa and with Africa. By empowering professionals with targeted, localised knowledge and fostering stronger regional cooperation, the Southern Africa Executive School is laying the groundwork for sustainable electrification and resilient energy systems.
