June 19 | 12.30 p.m. - 6.00 pm EAT| Radisson Blu Hotel & Residence, Nairobi Arboretum, Nairobi, Kenya
RES4Africa Foundation and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will hold the second in a series of Development Partners Forums entitled Promoting Private Sector Participation in Africa’s Power Grids on June 19 in Nairobi, Kenya. The event will discuss what It required to achieve universal access to energy.
Despite their pivotal role in delivering power to homes and businesses, transmission and distribution networks in Africa have received less attention from both the public and private sectors compared to generation. Public-private partnerships (PPPs) are crucial to channelling private sector resources to transmission projects. To date, few such partnerships have been established for transmission infrastructure in countries in Africa.
During the forum in Nairobi, Res4Africa’s Grids4Africa programme will present a position paper that was developed based on discussion inputs from the first development partners forum held in November 2022. The paper will set the scene for the discussion in Nairobi to inspire concrete solutions to enabling more investment in transmission. It will also highlight some of the key challenges to address related to transmission infrastructure projects, including wayleaves, business models and remuneration, affordability, ownership and operation, and policy and regulation.
Industry experts and high-level representatives from RES4Africa and IFC’s networks will attend the forum. Participation is open to energy sector practitioners, with a focus on transmission investments.
