20 young energy professionals from Kenya, Ghana and Tanzania participated in the 31st training edition of RES4Africa Academy's Technical and Vocational School (former MGA), supported by the knowledge partner Enel Foundation and carried out entirely in person, in Nairobi, Kenya, from the 23rd to the 27th of October 2023.
The lectures hosted at Strathmore University, in collaboration with Strathmore Energy Research Centre (SERC), provided trainees with in-depth knowledge and a comprehensive overview of a wide set of technical topics related to photovoltaic and mini-grids systems (i.e., site selection, demand assessment, load forecasting, renewable mini-grid components, such as battery technologies and their configurations, and more).
As a crucial part of the learning path, students also attended two-day practical training at St. Kizito VTI, where they engaged in hands-on demonstrations and group exercises on inverters-chargers, fuel generators, PV arrays-module mounting structures (assembly, installation, health and safety, etc.), benefitting from St. Kizito's lab facilities and technologies. The aim was to bridge the gap between theory and practice, stimulating discussion and a more long-lasting comprehension of technical aspects related to this edition's content for Module 2 - DRE site selection and engineering.
The activities were organised in collaboration with RES4Africa Academy's Technical and Vocational School network: Strathmore University, St. Kizito VTI, AVSI Foundation and Enel Foundation, while classes were held by experts and facilitators from SERC, St. Kizito VTI, Sapienza University, Schneider Electric, and Enel Foundation's Open Africa Power alumni community.
