On the 6th of September 2022, RES4Africa will hold the event Accelerating Egypt’s Clean Energy Transition: Enabling policies, investments, and technologies with the sponsorship of Bonelli Erede. The gathering, organized in collaboration with the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), will take place in Cairo from 9:30 to 16:15 CET.
Building on its long-established clean energy cooperation with its Egyptian partners, RES4Africa goes back to Egypt after four years with a high-level conference, reaffirming its intent for continued cooperation with the country and convening a stimulating public-private dialogue on further accelerating Egypt’s clean energy transition at a critical time for the global energy sector and on the pathway to COP27 in 2022.
The event will feature experts from the energy industry who will be gathered in person for this special occasion. The first session tackles the regulatory framework and way forward for renewables in Egypt. The second session discusses the role of DFIs and the private sector in RE finance. Finally, the third and fourth sessions delve into RE technologies and grid infrastructure.
Being the host of the COP27, Egypt is affirming itself as a regional energy hub, boosting its ambitions in terms of renewable energy deployment and emissions reduction. Since the adoption of the Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy (ISES) in 2015, the country has embarked on an ambitious renewable energy targets (42% of the electricity mix by 2030), taking significant steps in defining a diversified clean energy plan based on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other clean energy technologies, including green hydrogen.
As the world leaders will gather in Sharm El Sheikh later this year for the COP27 to take action on climate change and sustainability worldwide and in particular Africa, this event builds on the Glasgow Climate Pact and aspires to create the right momentum to accelerate climate action and energy transition in Africa.
