On the 10th of March, RES4Africa Foundation will hold the 8th appointment of AM-Powering Connexions, a series of monthly morning sessions aimed at the South African energy community to discuss ideas, share resources, and create connection and engagement opportunities linked to a South African energy transition. AM-Powering Connexions is promoted by the RES4Africa Foundation in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Pretoria, CSIR, Nedbank, SAESA, SAPVIA, and SAWEA.
The South African energy market has been undergoing major transformations and efforts Roughly 2 GW of storage is planned up to 2030 according to the IRP 2019, although regulation currently does not favour its integration. A more liberal market with day-ahead trading, day-ahead reserve trading, physical bilateral transactions and trading between licensed buyers and sellers increases the profit-making potential of BESS applications, thus paving the way for the growth of this segment. RES4Africa, together with PwC South Africa, is producing a Regulatory Assessment of BESS in South Africa with the goal of understanding current challenges and, through the development of a benchmark based on global best practices, suggest possible paths to take for the introduction of energy storage in South Africa.
The upcoming session will be moderated by Chris Yelland, Managing Director at EE Business Intelligence. After the meeting, all the participants will receive a brief, highlighting topics of the month, points raised during the discussion, emerging insights and suggested readings on the topic.
The discussion never stops: before, during and after the session the AM-Powering Connexions LinkedIn group will be at disposal of the South African stakeholders to share content, insights and opinions. Participation is free of charge, however, we kindly ask to officially request to join (button below). In order to maintain the meeting focused on South Africa, only stakeholders from the country are encouraged to register.
